Why Silverline Photos?
It’s too easy to be overwhelmed by dark clouds. Those of the past, those over our heads today and even those of the future. One simply has to read the accounts of Auschwitz, Nanking, Hiroshima, the gulags or Srebrenica to lose hope in humanity. Then, there’s the daily news, with its deluge of drama. And finally, if we’re honest with ourselves, we generate those clouds in our own hearts through selfishness, greed and other vices of the human condition. All this put together is a perfect recipe to see the world through a lens of despair at best, or nihilism at worst.
But that’s only part of the story. Your grandmother’s comforting hug, reading a good book with your dog beside you, admiring your flower patch in springtime. For most people, those small but happy moments make up most of your life, if you think about it. And most people go out of their way to be courteous, responsible family members, employees, neighbors, citizens. They go about their occupations with dignity, good humor and hope. The lucky ones even live out their passions through their relationships, careers and hobbies.
The purpose of this collection is therefore to share those “moments of Grace”, the silver lining behind those looming clouds which cast shadows over our lives. These moments make the burden of life not only bearable, but worth living. Nietzsche once said “… if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you …” So let’s do the opposite and see what happens. Enjoy.
